The Reading Workshop where reading comes alive. Caution some might find, you cannot put a book down, resulting in drool on your book!
Reading will be taught in a workshop style. Students will begin the period with a mini-lesson on a specific topic that makes one a good reading. Students will then be given time to read, respond and create with the books he or she is reading.
Students will read as much as they can this year. He or she will need to read from a variety of genres.

Requirements for the year:
Dear students ( and parent): To earn a proficent or advanced grade in this subject. You will be asked to read and create projects for 3 books this year for this class. These books must be "just right" books. Your projects will be based on 5 different roles that will "sell" or " advocate for" your book selection. The idea is to convinve others to read your book selection. These projects will be presented to classmates. Students projects will be display in the classroom, outside the classroom and on the web.
Once a trimester you will choose one of the five roles ( Book Reviewer, Book Marketer, Book Artist/Sculptor/ Poet, Book Fan, Book "Free Spirit" Agent. You will be given a week to complete projects these will need to be completed at home and school. Please see descriptions on Google Doc.
Students will also be required to journal weekely about his or her book using the skills focused on during the week through mini-lessons. These entries should be at a minimum of 1 to 1 1/2 pages long. Journals will be turned in on Friday each week. I will be responding to you as a reader through the journal.
You will also be responsible for vocabulary. More information will be posted on this soon.
